Is $500,000 enough for retirement?

I’m just curious. Or if not, how much should I save? Like $900,000?
In the United States assuming you have no health conditions that would alter your life expectancy and based upon the cost of living.....you will need well over $1,000,000 to retire comfortably and that is assuming Social Security still exists by then. Of course that also assumes that you will want to do something with your retirement other than sit around your home and watch TV.
@ElizabethBabe1994 Yep, at least you are young enough to make the effort. I am 56 years old and I am about 750,000 short of what I will need.

@ElizabethBabe1994 You have time. Start saving, and investing 1o% of your income.

My 401(k) people say I need to have at least $1 million.
To live comfortably, I'd say $1500 a month is about the minimum. You statistically have about 70 years left, so you'll need about $1.25 million.

That doesn't take into account inflation or the "risk" of living longer than that though, so you may want to save up a bit more to be certain.

Maybe it is right now but you can't know for sure how much that will be worth 10 or more years from now.

It's better if you have a passive income, than a mere sum of money. Or at least, if you have those money invested, or in form of assets (houses, businesses, boats, etc)

Not even close. You’re trying to sustain your current lifestyle for at least 2 or more decades. Then you need money for home care/nursing homes when you get sick..

@Quetzalcoatlus then what 2 million?
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
@ElizabethBabe1994 2 million is a good start, it’ll have to be more by the time you’re retired..
it was, But our money has lost 80% of its value since the 70's
i think many person working now will not be able to afford retirement
stay away from stocks and crypto
