Can you buy a gift card for yourself? Or is it selfish?

I know gift cards are to only give to someone else but one of my guy friends said he bought a $100 gift card for himself as an reward for his hard work. Honestly I think that’s awesome but someone else said it’s selfish to guy gift cards for yourself and you should give gift cards to other people. I mean that’s her opinion but she does have a point.

What's the point? If you want to buy something, you could just go buy it rather than a card. Cut out the middleman, so to speak. Unless it's a budget thing.

@DunningKruger What would you say to him? I told him it’s his life but the girl has a point but on the other hand, he’s treating himself so I don’t see a problem.

@ElizabethBabe1994 No. Perhaps it makes it feel like found money, which is a treat. I sort of feel that way about the rebates we get on our Amazon credit card when we use them to buy something there; it's "free," it doesn't cost us anything.
