I usually find that there are long lines waiting for the self check outs, the regular checkouts hardly ever have more than one person waiting.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
Because I don't work there I shouldn't have to ring up my own item own idle and these people need their jobs so it's 2 birds with one stone

Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
@TheRascallyOne it’s not work just ringing up your items.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@Jeffrey53 No sir I will not ring up my own items

Many of the older generation dont know how to use computers and some refuse to learn.
EXAMPLE:I use to have a friend that I've known well over twenty years.
Finally, one day while we were talking about our computers I tried to help him understand how it basically works.
He got so frustrated and angry that he slammed his cell phone shut on me.

@eyeno its just like the people that dont have email its like really 🤣

@SW-User I'm afraid his life will get harder in the years to come.
He lives about 15 miles outside of a town. What will happen when he's no longer able to drive and has to do banking, fill-out Social security benefits, grants and legal documents.
No more eyeno to help or becoming a nuisance to people he ask for help.

@SW-User not everyone uses email. I never have to tell u the truth

people are tired of machines, they want more human interaction, ive worked retail for years and ive had a few people come up to me, when they could have used self checkout and they appreciated me for working that day
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
I work in a grocery store and a lot of those people probably have no idea how to use it. Mainly older people.
Even when they come to the normal check out, some of them are slow af, always mess up inserting or swiping their card, etc.
I sometimes wonder how these people even drove themselves to the store lol

I'll wait in line. People need jobs. Why save a multi billion dollar company a few cents?
bijouxbroussard · F
@Crazywaterspring That’s a really good point.
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
@Crazywaterspring they won’t loose their job. They go somewhere else in the store to work.
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
They probably don’t believe in self check outs
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
@cherokeepatti I like using self check out because it’s fast and it gets me out of there. I’m able to get on with my life than wait for everybody else. It’s very convenient since I’m always on the go
TempuraShrimp · 26-30, M
@TurtlePink same here
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TurtlePink Even if I had been a cashier previously I still would refuse to check my own merchandise out. This is business and the corporations who are pushing it are greedy.
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
Some people are lonely, and a checkout clerk may be the only person they speak to all day.

SW-User
@DallasCowboysFan my thoughts exactly
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
They maybe want cashiers to have a job. They believe in freedom and liberty as opposed to convenience and tyranny. Most doing this probably use cash too, maybe because they don't wish to be enslaved and part of a government controlled police state in the future.
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
@therighttothink50 they don’t loose their job. They find them something else to do
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
🤦♀️@Jeffrey53
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Jeffrey53 i am sure stores like walmart could find the cashiers other positions. But not all stores could. The store i worked at couldn't
I hate self check outs they stress me out when doing a large shop. I also dont like that they replace jobs. I do use them if I have to.
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
@Cutiepi23 So, you’re a hypocrite?
@SW-User Yeah its cool for some people I suppose. The healthy fit & strong. Im exhausted by the time I've shopped & checked out tbh. My daughter or partner are sometimes with me so not too bad on those occassions.

that would be me. not being rude so i will explain why. the self checkout killed a job and if you notice you have 4 self checkouts so that is four people the company did not want to pay wages too. its kinda sad when a company will kill jobs just to make more money and not give health care or a decent wage . and the big boys get a bonus for saving money on the little cuts here and there that they do even if it hurts the lower paid staff . so for me its a protest kinda think. hope that helps you understand why. now others might not do it for that reason. you could just ask when you are standing and waiting. do ask kindly and they might tell you with out getting mad. good luck. mark
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
They likely have convictions against checking out at self checkout machines.
Adstar · 56-60, M
Maybe they are supporting the jobs of the check out employees..
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
@Threepio is it really that hard on you to bag your own groceries? Are you fat?
I really don't like self checkouts, I'll only use them if line is too long, and now it often is because they only have 1 cashier covering the entire front of the store.
Spoiledbrat · F
They don't like change and resist it because it's actually easier. But I resist it too. Like I don't consent to cookies.

I don’t get it either. I use self check out all the time

Where I live if your one item is alcoholic you can't use the self checkout.

Some don’t understand self checkout machines—or trust them.
Spokeskitties75 · 46-50, M
Because they are scared shitless

@CopperCicada Not knowing how to use it, fear of losing one’s money or exposing credit or debit card info to the wrong parties. With an unfamiliar technology, anything’s possible.

Or those fucks that take a full trolley to the self checkout, they should each be sentenced to 12 years hard labor.
