Do you think back or spine surgery is risky?

GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
It’s risky, as all surgeries are, but definitely worth the risk with a good surgeon and the best decision I ever made regarding my health

I think it depends on how close they are actually getting to the spinal cord. Other than that, I know many people who have had spinal surgeries after dealing with the pain for years, everyone I know who has had spinal surgery has said that they wish they had done it way sooner. The one person I know who has had more problems and pain after surgery, didn't heed doctor's advice about returning to work and lifting. If I needed spinal surgery, I wouldn't be afraid of the procedure.
Yes. I wouldn't trust these doctors. So many of them don't know what they are even doing

Yes, I do. From what I've heard one wrong move and you could be paralyzed.

Any surgery holds risks but that's the worst case scenario. Neurologists are experts in their field. They do wonderful things these days.
Like any, what I think matters is who your surgeon is. Different specialists have different interests, experiences, and different solutions.

IMHO incredibly risky, losing weight is the best recipe for that kind of pain along with walking.

Yes, but it also depends on how bad your back is, it may well be way more advantageous to take that risk

Yes, all surgery can be dangerous, more so on the back or spine one slip and your in a wheelchair

I personally haven't met anyone that has been happy with the results of a back operation.
All surgeries carry risk. Some more than others, obviously. The closer you get to the spinal cord...

I think neck surgery might be a bit riskier.

Definitely

Well it is one of the most risky areas in which to have surgery but plenty of back surgeries are successful.
I don't really trust modern medicine because it's not personalized enough and if physicians make mistakes they often aren't held accountable so I would be very careful about getting back surgery but sometimes it's necessary for your quality of life
