So is it a thing to make sandwiches with no butter or mayo?

I was on a training course yesterday and we were offered lunch.
Just a sandwich and a drink.
By lunch I was pretty famished, anyways to my surprise they added some crisps.

I took a bite of the sandwich and god damn it was soo dry.
I quickly washed it down with my drink.
I checked it and they forgot the butter and mayo.
I had to press the sandwich just to get the tomatoes to create some moisture like wtf!

Is this a thing?

I have them with cheese, never mayo or butter

@Elessar that's depressing

@Mellowgirl I don't like overly greasy stuff. I'm not an engine needing constant lubrication 🤔🥴

@Elessar Do you have Miracle Whip there? It's a mayo type spread that's a bit tangy...I love it on most sandwiches!

@Elessar butter doesn't need to be greasy, just a thin layer or even olive oil will do. But if you prefer it dry thats fine. I'd just suggest to offer the alternative to someone else.

@Coralmist Not that I know of, I've always seen regular mayo; but in general mayo is on tramezzini, with sandwich I'm thinking more about what we'd call panini, that usually are dry

@Mellowgirl Well butter by definition is greasy/fat 😋

In general this is the kind of sandwich I get:

@Elessar mmm paninis are delicious.

@Elessar and just a little butter or mayo maybe even mustard will bring it all together.

As a note everyone was complaining. Its not the norm! Well at least for us on the course!

@Mellowgirl I'd just go with this, in case:

@Elessar what's that? Yogurt?

@Mellowgirl No way! Stracciatella cheese, it's a very soft and sweet cheese, think of like buffalo mozzarella but way softer and with a lot more milk

@Elessar Looks so good! Ingredients please!😋

@Borderline From bottom to top: Lettuce, thin sliced tomatoes, salami, Prague ham (I guess), different type of salami (😅), cheese
