Coffee, alcoholic beverages, salted fish, red meat, pickled vegetables, even very hot beverages for example are ALL known or probable carcinogens in humans. It's rarely about "what" but about "how much"

@Salix75 Yes, the well-known conspiracies by Big Coffee and Big Rollmops 😂

@Salix75 @newjaninev2 Age is a big factor in cancer rates https://news.cancerresearchuk.org/2015/02/04/why-are-cancer-rates-increasing/

@Bushranger Yes indeed. As you know, our evolutionary history(as with all species) is one of surviving long enough to replicate our genes, then if possible hanging around long enough to ensure our replications replicate, and then to get out of there, so that we free up resources for our replications.

For most of human history that’s how it went... if you lived into your 40s you were doing well. These days, mainly thanks to science, dying in your 70s is seen as an early death. Meanwhile, the genetic damage from a host of ‘natural’ sources accumulates. This would not usually cause a problem... because we’d be dead from other causes long before any cancer appeared.

Our skin is our largest organ, and because it acts as our interface with the environment, it’s very easily genetically damaged. Despite that, every year billions of people deliberately expose their skin to large doses of nuclear radiation, and deem that to be ‘healthy’. They lie semi-naked in that nuclear radiation until their skin tries to defend itself by frantically increasing melanin levels. They’ll happily do this while discussing whether or not the lotion they have applied contains carcinogens!

@newjaninev2 Long ago, I read about a dropping in heart attacks that was related to artificial flavoring. Because it was based on the same ingredients as aspirin.

@BlueSkyKing A quick wander around the Internet shows me that broccoli, cucumbers, fresh spinach, sweet potatoes and tomatoes have moderate levels of salicylic acid, and that canned mushrooms, radishes, sweet peppers, tomato sauce and zucchini have extremely high concentrations

You could also wander around chewing willow bark, but it’s best to use pharmaceutical aspirin, so that you can control the dosage.

Aspirin is commonly used as a blood thinner, to ease the ‘pumping’ burden on a damaged heart, and also to lower the risk of blood clots forming as the blood leaves a sluggish heart

Occasionally physicians find some or other muppet who swallows aspirin as a prophylactic to prevent heart problems. The result is usually internal haemorrhaging, bleeding ulcers, etc. 😀

As a word of caution, don’t ever attempt suicide by overdosing on large amounts of aspirin... it’s not a pleasant way to die!
@newjaninev2 I heard about a guy that tried to overdose on aspirin. After the first two, he felt better.

@BlueSkyKing Doctor rang a plumber late at night to say that his toilet had started overflowing:
“Drop a couple of aspirin into it and call me in the morning”

Sweet revenge!

Prescribed for patients after heart surgery.

@newjaninev2 this info comes straight from the IARC.. the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

@Salix75 As you said, it’s very much a question of ‘how much?’

There’s a bewildering list of items that are carcinogenic...I’m expecting water to be added to that list any day now 😂

I’m baffled as to why fernie2 sees that as a reason to spread covid.
@newjaninev2 Hey! I'm not spreading anything. I never leave my house. NO ONE comes in. I wear a damn mask on zoom calls! If all that changes...if I suddenly have to leave my comfort zone I WILL risk the vaccine. Your remark was very unfair
