Very astute observation.
Yes, generally people are lost in their own thoughts, thinking about what they need to do, where they need to go, what they need to buy or pick up, who they need to contact, etc. Not too many people notice those around them and if they do, it's a split second look and it rarely registers. Unless you're doing something really really weird or out of the norm, people don't notice what anyone else is doing.
