I played the cello for 6 years, and I chose the instrument after hearing it during a TV commercial.
FreshAirLover · 26-30, M
@Mellowgirl It might be less impressive when I tell you that anyone could join the school orchestras, no tryout of any kind needed. Sadly, I stopped playing after 10th grade which was years ago.

@FreshAirLover The Cello is awesome. Arguably the most underrated heavy metal instrument in existance. New wave band FunBoy 3 had a Cellist. They're not just for symphonies anymore.

So, when I was younger I played a lovely Fender Telecaster which was a natural colour. I had to sell it to get through university (needed to eat!).
Unfortunately, Fender USA stopped making this particular model, so years later I set about making one to match the one I used to have. It took months and months, but in the end I finished it and even made improvements to the original I had. Here’s the finished thing:
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Oneofthestormboys I love it.
Magenta · F
I played piano but am rusty. Also the guitar for a very short time.
I had piano lessons due to my mother, she said I was the most musically talented of the siblings. 🎹
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@Magenta my mother tried to get me to play piano when I was younger, just never had a knack for it
Magenta · F
@wildbill83 Ah, you were probably good at something though.
I did quite well. I only wish I'd have kept current with it versus letting it slip away.
Magenta · F
@Mellowgirl No, I was the only one who played piano. My Dad was self taught on the guitar and he, my mom, myself and my other two sisters would sing together. Long ago.. 😌
Oneofthestormboys · 100+, M
Yes, I play guitar completely self-taught.
I think that the guitar is a beautiful instrument capable of expressing so many emotions. They’re very tactile, feel nice in your hands, and if you get hold of just the right one then they can feel like part of you 🥰🎶
Magenta · F
@Oneofthestormboys Beautiful.

American Fender Jazz Bass.
I was an OK guitarist, but a lot of bassists picked up that instrument because they wanted to be in a band and with four strings it was easy to thump away. I took a different tact, and my band shined in college. After graduating and coming back for a weekend, one of my old bandmates exclaimed, "Chuck! You've got to check this out. This guy stole your riffs!" That guy was Les Claypool of Primus.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@IronHamster feel like i need to be asking you for lessons
IronHamster · 56-60, M
@Mellowgirl learn everything you can. I tweaked my gear to play how it worked best for me. My action was as low as possible. Get the best pickups you can afford. Learn to play guitar riffs and chords. Learn slapping for that white boys doing funk sound. Have fun.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@IronHamster thank you can I message you. I promise not to bombard you with questions
Keyboard/piano, cello and a little guitar

@PrivateHell Awesome. I love piano. I prefer marimba and xylo to piano though.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@PrivateHell you have really good little band going... 😊

I started out on drums, later moved to bass guitar and am currently a vocalist. Mostly just did what the band needed the most.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@SarahAndSamantha nice... What type of music do you play?
SarahAndSamantha · 46-50, F
@Mellowgirl Let's call it metallic. We play a bunch of different styles, but most of them with metal influences.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@SarahAndSamantha that's cool. I used to listen to a little when I was younger but probably more the commercial bands.
My favourite song at that time was drowning pool-bodies.
ReneeT · 61-69, M
I play the guitar and the piano. I've only had about 3 months of piano lessons when I was 8 but everything else is self taught. I can play drums also
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@ReneeT this is impressive
theAlchemist · 56-60, M
[c=800000]Guitar. Specifically for playing heavy metal.[/c]
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@theAlchemist nice.
How long have you played for?
theAlchemist · 56-60, M
@Mellowgirl [c=800000]I've played on and off since 1992.[/c]
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
Fender Fat Strat and Washburn D12
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@wildbill83 no idea what they are
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@Mellowgirl guitars; Fender electric, Washburn acoustic
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@wildbill83 oooooh thank you for telling me. I have a turquoise and brown fender bass. But I'm learning

Flute and piccolo. Marimba and xylophone are fun, too.
VirginMatchmaker · 46-50, M
Keyboards. I always hated guitars.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@VirginMatchmaker hated guitars!
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
A little guitar and harmonica
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@vetguy1991 my grandfather used to play the harmonica.
It's a really underrated instrument. I think its an instrument once played well everyone can enjoy especially modern society because it is hardly heard.
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
Nope I’m useless
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@ImRileyTheDog not useless, you just never played?
That's quite rude to say about yourself in all honesty.

You have some crazy skills in other aspects of life, damn I'd be so lucky.
Haven't played in years but 🎹
skin flute for me and it was puberty 😔
octoberthesixth · 26-30, F
I wish I could
Oneofthestormboys · 100+, M
Do you play an instrument?
Oneofthestormboys · 100+, M
@Mellowgirl That’s so cool. Bass is a brilliant guitar!
Oneofthestormboys · 100+, M
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Oneofthestormboys very pretty
I come from a musical family. I play the piano and the violin, two instruments several people in my family play, also the organ and harpsichord. I also used to play the cello.
LostOrchid · F
I can play hambone 🙂
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@LostOrchid don't know that one is that instrument street code?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Drums. It chose me. I've tried others, but always returned.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Mellowgirl There's a lot of "soulless" music out today, especially pop. I struggle to see how it's going to be remembered.
theAlchemist · 56-60, M
@uncalled4 [c=800000]If people still have brains and souls 30,40,50 years from now, today's mainstream pop music will be laughed at and regarded with utter contempt.[/c]
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@uncalled4 I'm sure every generation feels the same about the next generation of music, but we aren't the ones they're trying to satisfy so of course we'll say this. But those that get it. Party to it, sing a long etc will.
Maybe I'm old, maybe I'm just past it but I just think it's like anything, it's not for me, so I don't let it bother me.
Azlotto · M
I did. I laid my Strat (guitar) down years ago.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Azlotto whyyyy.?
Azlotto · M
@Mellowgirl Good question. I'm thinking about dusting her off and taking her for a spin.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Azlotto please do.
