@Mellowgirl It might be less impressive when I tell you that anyone could join the school orchestras, no tryout of any kind needed. Sadly, I stopped playing after 10th grade which was years ago.
@FreshAirLover The Cello is awesome. Arguably the most underrated heavy metal instrument in existance. New wave band FunBoy 3 had a Cellist. They're not just for symphonies anymore.
So, when I was younger I played a lovely Fender Telecaster which was a natural colour. I had to sell it to get through university (needed to eat!). Unfortunately, Fender USA stopped making this particular model, so years later I set about making one to match the one I used to have. It took months and months, but in the end I finished it and even made improvements to the original I had. Here’s the finished thing:
I played piano but am rusty. Also the guitar for a very short time. I had piano lessons due to my mother, she said I was the most musically talented of the siblings. 🎹
@Mellowgirl No, I was the only one who played piano. My Dad was self taught on the guitar and he, my mom, myself and my other two sisters would sing together. Long ago.. 😌
Yes, I play guitar completely self-taught. I think that the guitar is a beautiful instrument capable of expressing so many emotions. They’re very tactile, feel nice in your hands, and if you get hold of just the right one then they can feel like part of you 🥰🎶
American Fender Jazz Bass. I was an OK guitarist, but a lot of bassists picked up that instrument because they wanted to be in a band and with four strings it was easy to thump away. I took a different tact, and my band shined in college. After graduating and coming back for a weekend, one of my old bandmates exclaimed, "Chuck! You've got to check this out. This guy stole your riffs!" That guy was Les Claypool of Primus.
@Mellowgirl learn everything you can. I tweaked my gear to play how it worked best for me. My action was as low as possible. Get the best pickups you can afford. Learn to play guitar riffs and chords. Learn slapping for that white boys doing funk sound. Have fun.
@SarahAndSamantha that's cool. I used to listen to a little when I was younger but probably more the commercial bands. My favourite song at that time was drowning pool-bodies.
@vetguy1991 my grandfather used to play the harmonica. It's a really underrated instrument. I think its an instrument once played well everyone can enjoy especially modern society because it is hardly heard.
I come from a musical family. I play the piano and the violin, two instruments several people in my family play, also the organ and harpsichord. I also used to play the cello.
@uncalled4If people still have brains and souls 30,40,50 years from now, today's mainstream pop music will be laughed at and regarded with utter contempt.
@uncalled4 I'm sure every generation feels the same about the next generation of music, but we aren't the ones they're trying to satisfy so of course we'll say this. But those that get it. Party to it, sing a long etc will. Maybe I'm old, maybe I'm just past it but I just think it's like anything, it's not for me, so I don't let it bother me.
