I have not, and that fact has been preying on my mind a lot in the past year. I've pretty much decided that I'm going to leave my house and car to an animal rescue organization, but haven't decided which one.
There are also some somewhat valuable belongings that I'd prefer to leave to a friend...if they'd want them. If I die before getting this legal will accomplished, everything will likely go to the state.

We do have one, no surprises though. If you like your kids have a will, make everything as easy as possible.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@monte3 Hes left it all to his wife. He told us he would gift the grand kids but didnt. The house is 'in trust' to hubs and his sisters, but if she wishes to sell and spend the money she can. Its only money. Dad worked very hard and its sad the grandchildren might not get a little sonething in the end.

Yes I have. No surprises though.
Do your will people, dying intestate causes so many issues!

@Fantabulous leaving one can cause just as many issues too!!

@RubySoo as someone in the insurance industry I can honestly say that having one has served more families than not having, even if there are some surprises sometimes.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@Fantabulous this one hasnt helped this family sadly x

No, not yet, but I've been thinking about it a lot the last year. If I do some of my belongings might go to a close friend of mine. One of my siblings might be a bit surprised at that.
There's also the fact that should I make a will, I won't be trying to make it "equal", no "everyone gets items that total up to equal value" kind of things. I want my stuff to go to those who will make use of it. Best example being - assuming it can be arranged properly - all my music stuff would probably go to one of my siblings even though it is the most valuable stuff I own, because that sibling is likely to actually use it. How others will react to that is uncertain. Still mentally hashing things out.

@PirateMonkeyCabinet yes...i understand that logic. Id do that.....my son wouldnt be interested in my music collection....but my daughter would appreciate a few treasures. I dont have anything worth leaving.
PirateMonkeyCabinet · 36-40, M
@RubySoo Sounds like a fair thing to do. If one of them has an interest in something while the other doesn't, splitting it up just for the sake of equal monetary value seems a bit off. Besides, things can have value in more ways than the monetary ones.
But yeah, that's kinda why I'm leaning towards giving the music gear to that one sibling. Giving it to anyone else likely would either lead to them selling it or ending up giving it away to someone (maybe even the sibling I would have given it to in the first place).

Other than being buried face down so the world can kiss my ass there isn’t anything special.
