Could be fat, muscle or water and even fecal weight

The scale is not specific on what you gained sometimes

SageWanderer · 70-79, M
Could be water weight, slower metabolism as the body may thinking starvation mode or if your exercising it could be muscle gain. You didn’t give a timeline but if you just started be patient.

@Butterflykisses24 You May plateau for awhile and fluctuations may happen. I’ve been bouncing myself within five pounds week to week. I’ll get serious once the weather breaks.

Body weight tends to fluctuate by a few pounds. It depends on the foods you are eating, and hormones can also have a major effect on how much water your body retains (especially in women). Also, it is possible to gain muscle at the same time as you lose fat.

It's probably a fluctuation in water weight like blissedbunny said. Weight loss is never linear. If you keep up the hard work and stay in a caloric deficit it'll pay off eventually. It has to.

@SW-User ok It hasn't yet.

One pound isn't bad, you have to consider clothing, building muscle, water retention and fecal matter as well.
