Brexit Effects

No Deal Brexit:-
The latest reckless act by our UK government, sending gun boats to protect our fishermen from French fishing boats.
We have Russian ships entering our waters to spy on us, we should be confronting them but instead we protect our waters from France, a friendly nation.
WTF are we doing??
Moonpenny · F
The sad thing is, in the intervening four years since the referendum, a good proportion of people have seen the error of their ways in voting to leave as well as a substantial number of young voters without that 'colonial' mindset, having had no chance to vote at the time.
So much good to be undone, in my opinion 😔
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@Moonpenny Well, if you mean Laugharge, he has a new job, as does Cameron!!
Moonpenny · F
@Uncfred Yeah, at least they have a job!
Moonpenny · F
@helenS It's a total mystery to me too but it's fact and sadly lives on in many!
Johnblackthorn · 56-60, M
It's not the first time we've embarked on such things and it's unlikely to be the last.
There was never the potential for a good deal, not only was that obvious at the time, the EU actually pointed it out before the referendum,at least now everyone knows it and we can stop pretending otherwise.
helenS · 36-40, F
Yes it's madness, and very sad.
🇪🇺

@Uncfred Wow another member of the grammar police. And there was me thinking the site was about communicating with people not some english test. But hey ho i am emotionally strong enough to take it when i am wrong. now run of and play with your dictionary.🤣🤣
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@billstickers I thought that you may be able to find some novel way of insulting, but hey ho, same old same old, and I could not give a s**t what you say be it English or your language.
billstickers · 36-40, M
@Uncfred do old people always need to have the final word. Well i have two final ones the second being off.
adorbz · 26-30, F
uh scuse me, a french fishing boat would be equivalent to the spanish armada if you were a GLORIOUS PATRIOT WHO BELIEVED IN BRITAIN’S DESTINY yada yada yada 👀🤣

now we can sink some french fisherman but only cuz we already sunk ourselves
adorbz · 26-30, F
@Uncfred didn’t you hear, Britannia rules the waves! 👀
Wolf90 · M
@adorbz never, never , never shall be.... wait what was the word again? 😶
adorbz · 26-30, F
@Wolf90 never never never shall be sharing the sea with some scary french people 👀
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
When all else fails resort to gunboat diplomacy.

Just another part of this silly charade.

If European leaders aren't interested in 'a reasonable exit' we'll let their Fishermen apply 'pressure' because they'll soon let them know what they think if they can't fish in our waters'.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 Oh yes, the fishermen of France certainly stat their case.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 I think there is egos here from eu and UK, the EU was never going to make it reasonable, because we dared to leave and they listen to remainers for years who told them they would get referendum result overturned and new vote , and did everything they could to stop us leaving, Johnson would be finished and Tory party if he gave In to the EU demands and signed the agreement they want
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@Nyloncapes You talk sense mate! It was a bad idea from the very start, I wonder how the Tories feel about things now? Whatever the outcome, there will be no party fit to decide for the nation. Sovereignty is about the only winner here.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@Moonpenny Just give it another 12 months, the only financial thing it will effect is my pension, but just think of all those who had no "say" in this madness. They will be bearing the "cost" of their parents misjudgement.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@jeancolby I was too immature in those days, but I think I was all for it (it is my nature ).
jeancolby · 31-35, F
@Uncfred Britain will be just fine.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@jeancolby Thank you for the reassurance honey, but time will tell the true story, but I doubt I will be around.
jeancolby · 31-35, F
Well King George and the Russian leader were cousins, WW1 era. Britain has never been that close to France.
Gumba1000 · M
@NortiusMaximus We were in the Schergen Acquis. Look it up, I did. Also our union will stay a union until the British government says otherwise.
@Gumba1000
We were in the Schergen Acquis.
I did. The point is, we opted out of the Schengen Agreement before it was signed so were never part of the Schengen Area.

It will be a very strange "United" Kingdom, when there is a customs border between different parts of it (namely between Great Britain and Northern Ireland). Even stranger that there will be no border between one part of the UK and the EU. The UK is fractured and I doubt it will be long before Great Britain is too.
Gumba1000 · M
@NortiusMaximus That remains to be seen and at the rate the SNP is going, Holyrood will be disbanded.
Frank52 · 70-79, M
'Project Fear': remember that? All those 'doomsters' who said we wouldn't get a trade deal, all the 'gloomsters' who said the EU would never compromise their integrity as a trade bloc, those 'unpatriotic voices which said businesses would end up having to add extra costs and there would be queues at the ports. Where are they now?

Despondent that they are being proven right.

Their opponents wrap themselves in the flag and feel good as everybody suffers for their narrow view of patriotism.
Gumba1000 · M
It is not "instead of" it's "as well as". Russian ships are monitored in the water, over the water and under the water. They don't get "confronted" either, they get "escorted".
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Imagine that. A country that spend decades occupying other nations, doesn’t want immigrants.
Gumba1000 · M
@MrBrownstone Just like the rest of the western world. It is not a unique stance.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Gumba1000 Well said
billstickers · 36-40, M
@Gumba1000 👍
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Is Johnson somehow related to trump?

Using the navy to protect fishing areas? Something is wrong.
All we're doing is alienating the EU even more.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@NortiusMaximus Exactly that! And I would wager that less than 50% of the UK agree with what they are doing.
Ingwe · F
Seafood is a staple of French cuisine
helenS · 36-40, F
@Uncfred Presenting war ships is just meaningless brouhaha.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@helenS Very true honey, and again we agree, but what a waste of our defence ability, when other more dangerous countries infringe on our home borders.
Have a lovely Sunday, soon be Christmas (of sorts).
helenS · 36-40, F
@Uncfred Oh thank you very much! 🌷
Yes it's a nice Sunday, and beautiful weather - blue sky and white clouds.
This Christmas will be different - usually my whole family would gather in my house (and my family is huge!), but not this year, because of COVID. 😐
billstickers · 36-40, M
The russians are not nicking our fish and France friendly you are having a giraffe .
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@billstickers The Russians are not interested in fish, they have much more sinister intentions mate. As for the French, well, I guess you are right about the "six nations", but the rest is just business.
