“African American” is a rather ambiguous phrase because a lot of people use it to mean “black American” based on the assumption that all black people come from Africa, when in reality there are black people living in lots of different places in the world. For that matter, the Human Hearth is in Africa, so even a lily white guy like me can claim to be an “African American”.

But you knew what they meant, Kamala Harris is half black.
