How do you feel about assisted suiside?

If the person is in dire condition
[c=#BF0080]If they're absolutely going to be suffering from an illness like brain cancer or something then I'm all for them taking the 'pill' to end their life. No one should have to spend they're last months suffering in such a way. I think only a few states allow this so far.[/c]

I often don't see people strangle dying birds or dying cats in their arms so I'm not really all for it. It's not so much assisted suicide as it is assisted murder. So they're mostly labeling it wrong.

Suicide is done by the self. Murder is done by another. That's a clear definition.

And the fact that the law actually considers suicide attempts to be against the law is also a contradiction.

Which is why they can legally lock you up if you ever confess to one.

So basically what we've established is that the whole thing is full of contradictions that make no sense. And that maybe they should start fixing those contradictions first before granting other people the power to kill others.

And just for fun to throw out the last major contradiction. Assisted "Suicide" is performed by doctors. Doctors who take a Hippocratic oath not to harm lives. Now there's the real beauty behind it all..

I've known plenty of people who have gotten locked up for it including myself so I'd have to disagree with that.. They give the whole "You're a danger to yourself and others" speech.. Maybe you're thinking in your state??
[c=#BF0080]I actually looked this up because I was just curious.. so I copied and pasted so I didn't get the wording wrong.

United States
Historically, various states listed the act of suicide as a felony, but these policies were sparsely enforced. In the late 1960s, eighteen U.S. states had no laws against suicide.[120] By the late 1980s, thirty of the fifty states had no laws against suicide or suicide attempts but every state had laws declaring it to be a felony to aid, advise or encourage another person to commit suicide.[121] By the early 1990s only two states still listed suicide as a crime, and these have since removed that classification. In some U.S. states, suicide is still considered an unwritten "common law crime," as stated in Blackstone's Commentaries. As a common law crime, suicide can bar recovery for the late suicidal person's family in a lawsuit unless the suicidal person can be proven to have been "of unsound mind." That is, the suicide must be proven to have been an involuntary act of the victim in order for the family to be awarded monetary damages by the court. This can occur when the family of the deceased sues the caregiver (perhaps a jail or hospital) for negligence in failing to provide appropriate care.[122] Some American legal scholars look at the issue as one of personal liberty.

Physician-assisted suicide is legal in some states.[124] For the terminally ill, it is legal in the state of Oregon under the Oregon Death with Dignity Act. In Washington state, it became legal in 2009, when a law modeled after the Oregon act, the Washington Death with Dignity Act was passed. A patient must be diagnosed as having less than six months to live, be of sound mind, make a request orally and in writing, have it approved by two different doctors, then wait 15 days and make the request again. A doctor may prescribe a lethal dose of a medication but may not administer it themselves.[125]

Hmmmm... Then maybe it's some other loop hole they're charging people with. I suppose I should have asked them directly but my mind was really to frazzled to care about what the "Charge" was..

I think it's weird that we treat some animals more humanely in that regard.

@CookiePounder: [c=#BF0080]I was assuming she meant the pill.. but I'm not sure what she was referring to.[/c]

@pinkrainbowkisses: I was referring to taking the pill in the hospital lol.

the problem is that suicide is a crime... as in you commit suicide the police has to interfere.

make suicide legal, and then all you have to do is give someone access to a drug and problem solved.

in cases where someone cant kill themself anymore it should be out of the question that it is of course an act of mercy to assist that person.
[c=#BF0080]It's not a crime in the US.. read my comments.[/c]

Dire physical condition, I'd want to be able to have the option to end my life.
