Why is it so hard finding a place in a decent area that accepts section 8?

I remember being a kid with my mom trying to get anywhere decent to take us because we had section 8. I'm trying to get somewhere cheaper for my own son and I to live in
It's because section 8 usually has stricter requirements of habitability than the state and a lot of landlords don't want to make the effort. Section 8 also requires that the rent is on the lower end of the housing market and many landlords want to charge more. However, something I have seen people do is if they knew someone who was willing to rent a house to them for cheap but the house wasn't on the section 8 list, they could get that landlord to apply for section 8 approval so that the section 8 recipient could rent from them.

Also, there are a lot of low-income apartments that are separate from the section-8 list that you have to apply to independently. You local social services agency should have a list that you can get. Or your local section-8 office might have a list of alternative low-income apartment complexes you can apply to independently.

If you are a TANF/Cash Aid recipient and are homeless, there may be a homeless assistance program that could temporarily help you. I thought it was a nationwide program but I know the state I lived in had all kinds of extra benefits they funded themselves so I might be wrong about that. It's been a while and I don't really remember.

@DownTheStreet it's housing assistance to low income people

@DownTheStreet low income subsidized housing.

Probably lack of housing for sec 8..usually have minimums to meet and don't go beyond that.
And this is why we live in cars.

Because they cluster impoverished areas together and then said area gets neglected because the people have no money to pay for goods and services. That leads to fewer jobs, which leads to even more poverty, which leads to desperation and crime.

We really need a big effort to start desegregating by wealth class.
