I almost got hit by 2 cars backing out because they weren't paying attention.

I walk my dog through my residential neighborhood. Many times we have almost been run over by someone backing out of their driveway! It's just common sense to look behind before backing up but, most lack common sense.

Cars don't usually pay attention because they are inanimate objects. Lol :)
