I dislike fake meat. It doesn't taste right.

When I was a vegan I preferred veggie patties to anything that was supposed to be a substitute meat.
KareninaF
@Doomflower was? You are not vegan anymore?
Doomflower36-40, M
@Karenina nope. I was in a car accident and almost died. Coma and reconstructive surgery and the whole nine. Woke up craving beef and have never looked back.
KareninaF
@Doomflower I'm sorry about the accidentally and it's good you got more protein now

Why do they come out with low carb pasta or reduced sugar desserts? Sometimes a new diet is hard for people
TinyViolins31-35, M
@SatanBurger Compassion is a big part of it, but I won't pretend it's the only reason. I spent many years as a vegetarian and later as a vegan, and I started off doing it for environmental reasons. It wasn't so much that I cared about animals, but realizing the environmental impact of raising animals for food is incredibly destructive. Eventually I did appreciate the emotional complexity of animals, but it wasn't the only reason.

In my time I got to meet a lot of other vegans and vegetarians, and a lot of them never mentioned animal intelligence or environmental impact. They just said they didn't like the taste and feel of meat. Some said they were doing it for health reasons. I felt kinda bad being lumped in with these kind of people since their choices were so logically inconsistent.

That said, I started eating meat again. I truly don't care anymore. I want the world to burn. There's a fair point to be made about the taste of certain vegan foods. A lot of vegan alternatives try too hard sometimes and miss the mark. There's a lot I've tried to get on board with and couldn't. There's a lot of trial and error, and for the most part I just made my own vegan meals because I didn't want to waste the money.

That said, people picking on vegans tend to have the emotional maturity of a soggy pancake. It's like they don't even care to entertain the philosophy behind it and just take someone else's diet as a personal attack. They probably had one self-righteous vegan proselytize to them once and it put them off of the idea about it forever. I know firsthand that not all vegans are calm and reasonable

That's because people think the wrong way, a whole foods vegan diet is based on rice, potatoes, and other good things. People in general, not you.. just need excuses to do whatever they want it seems, making vegan meats out to be a bad guy is a convenient excuse.
SatanBurger36-40, F
@TinyViolins But you are right, vegan meats try but fail. I'm just saying I understand why vegans may want them. There's also the impossible burger which is vegan and tastes exactly like meat lol. It's weird...

It is a bit odd. It's not like meat eaters ever shape a cut of meat to look like a turnip. Although I guess some people are moral vegans and do actually like meat but just choose not to eat it.

Agree. If you don鈥檛 eat meat then don鈥檛 even pretend! 馃槄

I'm vegan but what's an apple steak? I think you are exaggerating.
WineandCoffee51-55, F
Don鈥檛 forget the bacon shaped not bacon ...
Yeah I find it weird too. They're not real vegans if they can't handle it... Want meat? Eat meat. All the vegetarians I know do not like meat
SatanBurger36-40, F
@MushroomFaerie I wasn't aware I was the only vegan in the world, I think that last bit of yours is a red herring. Back on the actual subject, why would I ask? I hear it a lot from meat eaters when the reason why is right in front of their face, I can only think they do it on purpose to troll.

Most vegans probably liked meat especially if they were meat eaters before but maybe they don't want suffering even if they do like it. So mock meats are a good alternative, though not the healthiest by far. I'm not saying it's a healthy diet, there's far better vegan diets out there. However it also means that not everyone can control what they buy depending on where they live and a few nights a week when we don't have groceries but no other options, mock meats it is.

We're not meat eaters, society doesn't really cater to us and if they do, it's mock meats and not much of anything else like actual whole food meals you can just buy like meat eaters can.
@SatanBurger it wasn't an overly serious comment ...people can eat what they want but most of us here find it strange you need a substitute meat
SatanBurger36-40, F
@MushroomFaerie It's easy this society doesn't cater to vegans and vegans are not perfect, sometimes we need groceries. Fake meats are convenient when we are in-between checks, it's fairly obvious.

I say this all the time dude. Processed high fat carbs are bad too. If you鈥檙e really vegan rock fresh vegetables and fruit.
quitwhendoneM
I hear the BK Impossible burgers are good. I have had soy chipotle burgers that were great. But I like meat and I need the protein.

If God hadn't meant for us to eat meat he wouldn't have made so many delicious animals

Trying to trick their brain into thinking they are eating meat.
That shit is disgusting & insulting to my intelligence
Mrsbetweenfatandfit26-30, F
That is something my dad & I were just talking about. Especially when there鈥檚 many different ways to prepare, flavor, eat plant based foods without trying to disguise them as meats.
