Is mistaken identity scary to you

Like just the idea that someone could mistake you for someone else and harm you or even kill you.

I once got mobbed by a load of school girls in Shanghai airport as they thought I was Mo Wandan a famous Chinese model - bit scary at first but quite amusing 🙂

It is because there are a number of women that look similar enough to me that strangers have approached me and called me by their names. It happened 3 times in one week over 10 years ago, and I’ve learned to ask what the women do for a living and know that they are different. A restaurant hostess, a school teacher, a nurse at the hospital, a belt buckle factory worker etc. One couple even thought I was the woman’s niece when I was working as a greeter. They acted hurt like I was disowning them when I told them I wasn’t her niece. And one time I went to a laundromat and was unloading my clothes out of the car and two police officers were standing together looking at me and then at each other several times. I kind of thought they were looking at me like I was some kind of suspect.

@Firestarter Imagine how many innocent people may have been put in jail or prison based solely on eye-witnesses identifying them as a criminal....it is very frightening. Someone I knew very told me he saw me at a football stadium in another city about 70 miles away. He knew I had picked up his niece and took her to my home for a weekend visit but when I came back on Sunday he told me he saw me at the stadium sitting two rows behind him. He called my name a few times and said I ignored him. I told him he knew better because I was at home. He said “ Same hairstyle, same glasses, she looked just like you.”

@cherokeepatti Yes I watched a show were that happened, and it was 2 men, and they both even had the same name! And I forgot what they said, but I think it is a number they give them in prison they go by that instead of their face or name.

@Firestarter Oh yeah and in 5th grade I lived in Kansas. We had two 5th grade classrooms and a girl that could have been my twin (except she wore eyeglasses) was in the other classroom. One day she got sick & ran out into the hallway and threw up. The next day other kids were telling me they saw me throw up in the hallway. You could expect one or two doppelgängers in a lifetime but this is way too common for me.

It happened to someone in my family. They wanted to take him "for a ride and have some talk". They had guns. Luckily, they soon realized they found the wrong person with the same name.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@CrazyMusicLover Did they let him/her go unharmed?
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@CrazyMusicLover ok, nice place... 😎
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Mugin16 Yes. They left him as he was right at the door when one person who came a minute later said "it's not him", then they left the building, got to the car and drove away.

Not particularly. There are problems that are far more likely to crop up.

There was a time when a process server came to my door with papers for someone with the same name as me. It took me a second just looking at them to realize that it wasn't me, and about five minutes searching online to find the person they probably wanted. But it was never scary.

There are a million other things that you could worry about before you get to that one. The odds are pretty low.
MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
I’m more concerned about identity theft, since anyone can hack your personal information.
SW-User
Not at all. I'm confident in my ability to defend myself.

Mistaken identity can be deadly
Firestarter · 26-30, F
@SW-User Dang, that is sad. I never heard this before.
SW-User
@Firestarter it's one of the hidden classics
Yulianna · 22-25, F
depends who you are mistaken for...
Firestarter · 26-30, F
@Yulianna Yes, I heard of people being mistaken for famous people in restaurants and getting free food. 😁
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@Firestarter that would be cool! 🙂
Of all the things I worry about - that one’s not on the list.
Secret6620 · F
Seems like pointless anxiety
😊😊😊
