Some guy threatened to block me for using the word gay. Is it a bad word?

Cause I didn't mean anything offensive by it.

The word 'gay' hijacked my another group of people. Means nice, pleasant etc. Queers are queers, homo's are homo's call it what it is. Judging doesn't come into it.

@jeancolby Actually, the word had negative connotations as far back as the 17th Century, as a euphemism for prostitution and it was not so much originally adopted, as applied to homosexual people, who then later took it as their own in the mid 1960's.

I guess, in a similar way to how African Americans have 'reclaimed' the word 'nigger/nigga' more recently.
@Quizzical I agree, historically, however I’m personally not insulted by any of those words unless used in a negative context but context and inflection are almost impossible to determine online and very easily misread.

@DarkHeaven Oh, I totally agree. Everything needs context 😁
@Quizzical I always assume the best and also try to get clarification if I feels it’s negative. Words matter but not harassing someone that unjustly for a misunderstanding.

@DarkHeaven They are potentially powerful weapons in the wrong hands (er... or mouths)
