In a hostage situation what's the most likely thing I'd do?

I can do with or without but the hostage is 100% important to a secret mission. I paid ransom but no sign. The hostage sent a signal he's in trouble, unable to get to me for some reason but all avenues have proven fruitless. I have two weeks to get the hostage or move forward without him. Which was not the plan. And I like to stick to plans. Plus a promised.

It's fine I decided. If I don't get my hostage then the keeper will die, his family and his life will be destroyed. I'll put it in a will and pay a representative to carry out my will incase the kidnapper kills me first. In detail. In triplicate.
