In a hostage situation what's the most likely thing I'd do?

I can do with or without but the hostage is 100% important to a secret mission. I paid ransom but no sign. The hostage sent a signal he's in trouble, unable to get to me for some reason but all avenues have proven fruitless. I have two weeks to get the hostage or move forward without him. Which was not the plan. And I like to stick to plans. Plus a promised.

It's fine I decided. If I don't get my hostage then the keeper will die, his family and his life will be destroyed. The most likely thing for organized crime to do is to just leave them behind. People are easily replaced, it's not like the movies.
