We have the same type of system in New Hampshire, U.S. We don't have income or sales taxes, so people are taxed up the wazoo on their property. Homes, land, cars, boats, RVs, snowmobiles, ATVs. It doesn't pay to own anything nice anymore.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout That's always happened in the past with other states. New Hampshire's state motto is "Live Free Or Die." Lol. People will never vote for an income or sales tax. So, they've overburdened property owners.
