Why are Native American problems barely talked about when this is their country

helenS · 36-40, F
America isn't anybody's country. It's the country of everybody who's been born there, white, black, green, or whatever.
helenS · 36-40, F
@basilfawlty89 Yes that's true. I am denying claims from history, claims that generally lead to the next bloodbath. This is why I cited Karl Marx above.
@helenS it's always easier to lash out. Labels and name calling require no effort. Logic, reason and the ability to see another's point of view take effort.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@helenS but Marx himself was deeply flawed, but that's besides the point. It doesn't change historical fact, we can't use his quote and just revise history that makes us uncomfortable.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
The focus is basically on using the NA heritage as a tourism magnet, at least in Oklahoma any way.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@cherokeepatti I am for anything that will take more money away from the european decendents and give back to the First Nations.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NativeOregonian If the treaties are still in effect they need to be honored. The govt. tries to swindle land from Indians by doing land swaps, I am always suspicious because it means there is probably minerals of some kind on the land that the govt. is going after.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@cherokeepatti Exactly, they need to be honored. One movie that I think explains it perfectly is Thunderheart, with Val Kilmer. I also think that movie ties in with the 1974 shootout at Pine Ridge, which railroaded Leonard Peltier into federal as a political and corporatist prisoner.

They are talked about. Their country was taken from them and they were left with reservations. Is there something in particular you think should be talked about more?
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
@basilfawlty89 No. Sorry.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@StevetheSleeve typical, so just profit off theft and murder and let historical injustices just be ignored.
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
@basilfawlty89 The federal government spends about $20 billion a year on Native Americans.
Dunno, its not their country here
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS Because you are refusing to recognize birthright.
helenS · 36-40, F
@NativeOregonian Your birthright isn't any better than anybody else's. You have no special privileges, that's all.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS Like I said, racist.

solely due to the fact that the AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE as it is today was founded on genocide and greed, opression, and the miss conception that the immigrant and settlers of the Americas had the right to slaughter rape and pillage in the name of settling in the alledged land of the free, its was the blue print for the NAZI regime in Europe,so the third reich learned off the good nice Christian settlers of the Americas.
JustinOnTheRoad · 31-35, M
They are here in South Dakota. Constantly. But yeah, not many other places give a crap.
They didn't have countries in the way you are implying.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
Because the limo libs don't care about them.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Here in Canada they have their own nations. Unfortunately those nations rely on the Nation of Canada to support them financially. The effect is killing the 'First Nations'.
Eternity · 26-30, M
Because they have been utterly defeated that's why.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Because colonizers have basically controlled the narrative since 1492. Genocide, denial and Native erasure. Silencing of indigenous voices.
