I'm with you wholeheartedly. There have been numerous incidents here in Australia of abductions: young folks felt safe getting into a car with a female present. This did not bode well for them. In fact in the case of the Birnies, it was the last car ride a young woman took. She ended up in a shallow grave.

damn, I must have hitchhiked a thousand times. I crossed Canada from one end to the other hitchhiking, same with France, and went to school every day for 3 years in the same way. been all over Quebec hitchhiking also.

@DonotInboxMe had some weird moments. got picked up once by a guy who said he had just gotten out of jail after serving time for killing a cop. also got picked up by a guy how hardly said anything and had a huge knife in his ashtray. mostly its really nice people. I would definitely not suggest this to a girl. people who pick me up do it out of compassion, people who pick them up might do it for other reasons.
