If he wants to then let him. And you buy him stuff in return. That's what I would do. I'll never argue with anyone who wants to pay for stuff for me but I try and buy stuff for them too.
I'm a mature student so I don't have much money but I do try and show how appreciative I am when he pays for things. . In today's climate it is seen as wrong to let a guy pay for you. But if he wants to why is it a problem?

I never allow that. I pay for all kinds of things including meals or surprise trips. I'm a huge fan of give and take.

There is no money issue between us. Whats his is mine and vice versa. We like to spoil each other.

So pay sometimes.

So start a little swear jar fund. every time he pays for something you had money for, put the money aside in a little secret account. if it turns out he's really OK, you two will have a tidy little nest egg. if it turns out he's a dangerous control freak, you'll have an escape fund. and if it turns out you like being with a dangerous control freak, you'll have bail money to get him back.
