How can that be against freedom? If I wanna wear a sweater in summer, I will, and do. If I wanna walk in a T-shirt in winter, I will and do in 40° weather. Am I oppressed for choosing? 🤔

I think not

@SW-User Do you face consequences, if you Don't?
There's the difference...think again!!

@SW-User You have the power to choose what you wear ...NUNS DO NOT! Get it?
@Fernie Really??? So, who forced her to enter into monastic life??? And, who forces her to remain somewhere where she clearly doesn't want to be???

Even after she has taken her vows, she can still leave... and she has a choice as to if she chooses to wear her habit or venture out in more traditional clothing in much the same way as a priest does.

@Harriet03 yes there are consequences! I bear the cold!! In the summer, I bear the heat

Imagine I WANT to follow a religion. Then who is oppressed?

@HootyTheNightOwl whether or not she chose to enter that world is irrelevant to this discussion. Once in there she has to wear that stupid outfit

@Ladybutterfly You agree with every opinion given no matter what it is...pick a lane
@Fernie Have you ever had to go to school or work??? Many schools and jobs have uniform policies that they apply to their students and employees.

The only difference is that a nun or priest isn't penalized if they choose to venture into the outside world in civilian clothing. They have access to civilian clothing alongside their habits in their rooms.

One priest has actually said that he often prefers to travel in his "stupid outfit" (as you call it) because of the fact that it's a good conversation starter among the public... and he's often seen doing just that on his YouTube channel.

Can you imagine if you woke up one morning and decided that you wanted to wear your pajamas to work today, How long do you think you would be allowed to keep your job???

There are better ways that you can spend your time liberating others - like trying to liberate the children of Florida from having to use clear backpacks at school... can you imagine how humiliating that must be for a teenage girl at "that time of the month" - having her spare panties and feminine hygiene products on display for all to see or risking them falling out of her pocket.

@HootyTheNightOwl I'm in my mid sixties...I've been on the front lines for decades marching, fighting, protesting against sexism and for Women to be treated as equals.I still am every day of my life. I sure don't need you to teach me any damn thing about the oppression of women...especially in the church...religion in general is anti woman. You need to get an education...I've been there waaaay longer than you've been breathing. You have a very warped perception
@HootyTheNightOwl Many nuns didn't choose their 'careers' in the past. I don't think their numbers have increased drastically now that women have their say in their lives.

I differ here .-.
I think choosing is the right of everyone. She also has the choice to leave

@EarthlingWise Right! Many are fighting to become priests...I think it's all nonsense but still...I support them in that fight
@EarthlingWise Maybe they didn't, but nuns and priests have both come and gone over the years - they don't have an armed guard keeping them locked in the monastery.

While numbers may not have increased drastically, there's no real evidence that they've decreased drastically or that the reason for nuns leaving religious life has to do with the habit that they wear, either.

@SW-User You'll never get someone with a closed mind to see a different point of view.
@HootyTheNightOwl of course it's got little to do with the beautiful habit they wear, it has to do with freedom, to think to work, to love.
