When a gun fight happens in movies what goes on in them that would not happen in real life?

Well, the only real life gun battle I was ever witness to I actually only heard from like a block away, and the semi auto won (or at least was the last shot heard to be fired). The full auto didn't know what they were doing though...kept letting his ammo run out in one long burst and you rarely hit anything that way.
