As far as minors on this site...

Don't get involved in pedophilia with older adults. Adults, don't get involved in pedophilia with children. I will report you both.

For minors just using this site to talk to people and for general intelligent discussion, I really wish people would leave you alone. You should be able to use this site without being harassed. I am sorry, but I consider you to be a human being, not property of your parents and, therefore, I understand why you might be using this site and keeping that information from a parent, especially if your parents are very strict or aren't excelling, for whatever reason, at being parents, and you need people to talk to. I am not talking about parents who tell you that you have to do homework before playing video games or who make you do 2 hours of chores per week. I am talking about if, for whatever reason, you and your parents do not have a healthy relationship. The world isn't perfect, and this phenomenon is very real.

So I do NOT wish the minimum age for this site was 18. I just really don't want you using this site for pedophilia or for other unethical, immoral, or illegal purposes.

I have my settings to block access to anyone under 18, I'd rather not talk to them. Of course many minors resist the age restrictions so they can use the adult areas of the site anyway. You're not that far away from their age, so you can probably still relate.

@bijouxbroussard I started using EP at age 18, and I'd talk to 14-year-olds. It was just like a high school senior talking to a freshman.

@bijouxbroussard My profile contains adult content, so it is blocked from minors by default. As far as I know it's a SW site policy. I think that only applies to members whose profiles contain adult material though. How do you find the time to sift through 755,000 profiles (at the last count) to personally block all the under-18s? I should imagine that would take a tediously long time.

It only works with minors who list their ages, but it does work most of the time.

@bijouxbroussard How many of them do list their ages? I keep seeing references to members being rumoured to not be who they claim they are. I don't believe that BS myself, but how does the system know if they are lying or not?

@NankerPhelge The system doesn't know. Plenty list their ages and plenty don't. It's probably about 60/40 or something.

@33person I think the majority do list their ages, but the majority are a lot older than 18.

@NankerPhelge I hesitate to declare what the majority is because I don't know. But there are some people who do lie and others who don't. I know that, and I don't feel a need to pretend I know more than that.

@33person Maybe it's just that I haven't seen the under-18s because they are autoblocked by default, and that's why the majority appear to be a lot older.
