As far as minors on this site...

Don't get involved in pedophilia with older adults. Adults, don't get involved in pedophilia with children. I will report you both.

For minors just using this site to talk to people and for general intelligent discussion, I really wish people would leave you alone. You should be able to use this site without being harassed. I am sorry, but I consider you to be a human being, not property of your parents and, therefore, I understand why you might be using this site and keeping that information from a parent, especially if your parents are very strict or aren't excelling, for whatever reason, at being parents, and you need people to talk to. I am not talking about parents who tell you that you have to do homework before playing video games or who make you do 2 hours of chores per week. I am talking about if, for whatever reason, you and your parents do not have a healthy relationship. The world isn't perfect, and this phenomenon is very real.

So I do NOT wish the minimum age for this site was 18. I just really don't want you using this site for pedophilia or for other unethical, immoral, or illegal purposes.

Well-said. I too thInk kids need an outlet. Maybe SW might consider some sort of special reporting system for younger users. Buddy system. I don’t know. Something to protect them.

Most of the "minors" on here are 40-year-old divorced unemployed men with bad breath and smelly feet living in their mother's basement. I think even a not-too-bright kid would realize what a waste of time this place is.

@hunkalove That’s not always true. I have talked to some impostors but I have talked to several younger teenagers that I consider completely legitimate.

@hunkalove Some, idk about most. Plenty of people out there are actually 16, and then they are 18 2 years later. Basically, look at their stories. Besides, everyone has bad breath in the morning and smelly feet sometimes. It's the 40-year-old divorced and unemployed part, and the fact they're in a midlife crisis trying to connect with people way younger than them and harass them for their own sexual pleasure—that's the problem

That's a good post. I wouldn't stop them from using the site, although if they asked me, I'd suggest other places instead of this.

@DarkMoon Probably a good idea, if you know what to suggest. I've just been getting kind of angry lately with how flippantly people have been suggesting that minors shouldn't be on here. I guess the reason it bothers me is that I was literally a minor up until 29 days before I joined EP, and nothing magical happened to me in those 29 days.

@33person Of course that's true, some 15 year olds are streetwise, some 18 year olds aren't.
Apart from the predators, I actually don't think they get a sympathetic heating from a lot of the people, some of whom are just glorified bullies.
I found Whisper a good, non-judgemental place to be, especially when I was younger or Facebook groups.
You can make a fake account if you don't want your parents to know and there's far more admin support and monitoring there.

I respect your opinion but I disagree. Not to sound ugly but it's obvious that you never encountered the minors who's profile is heavily sex related or lying about their get to cyber sex with adults or engage in sexually conversations with 40 and 50 year old men.

It sounds agiest but I don't see minors being genuine or expressing their trouble from their homes if they do have any of that. I have seen stuff like that too many times and while, yes they have the right to talk about those things but there are many sites that's in favor of 13-17 year olds but as I mentioned above every minor is like that. Whether they are real kids or not it's wrong and this site isn't kid-friendly

@Chickie I reported two minors' profiles, one of which you brought to my attention and another that I discovered when she replied to one of my stories. Report any account possibly engaged in pedophilia, whether it's the minor seeking older people or the older people seeking minors.

@SW-User I am referring to using this site as a whole. But as far as people writing personal messages to each other, that is hard to monitor, so I just hope people will not tolerate harassment in the private messages. The block button is there for a reason, as is the report button.

I have my settings to block access to anyone under 18, I'd rather not talk to them. Of course many minors resist the age restrictions so they can use the adult areas of the site anyway. You're not that far away from their age, so you can probably still relate.

@NankerPhelge I hesitate to declare what the majority is because I don't know. But there are some people who do lie and others who don't. I know that, and I don't feel a need to pretend I know more than that.

@33person Maybe it's just that I haven't seen the under-18s because they are autoblocked by default, and that's why the majority appear to be a lot older.
