Are paper maps becoming obselete?

jackson55 · M
Seems that way just like the phone book. I still use maps because I like to see the big picture and a GPS doesn't show that.

Google maps has allowed you to cache offline maps for a while now.

Paper maps will always have a use but it will be very limited. They are to expensive to keep putting out and are obsolete before you even touch them. At the very best they are good for printing on demand as needed for special occasions I would think.

Topographical maps are probably still good for use.

for urban areas they are... but where you don't have cell phone service, such as out in the sticks or in a national park or something like that they're still quite handy.

I hope so because I could never understand them anyway.

I still find them handy never mind the garmin/phone

Absolutely not. They tell us what was once in an area.

They're becoming less common.
Just like payphones.

With a paper map you don't have to worry about getting a satellite signal or your phone battery running down.
