Do you judge people based on their knowledge of grammar?

Meisje · 31-35, F
I'm a language teacher so I really hate bad grammar, but I try not to judge
@Meisje yeah that's understandable

As a writer, editor, and teacher, it is very difficult for me to not take notice, and cringe, at improper grammar. However, to me, relationship is far more important than correct grammar. So, I have to ask myself, is it really worth possibly hurting another's feelings by pointing out their mistakes? No! Not unless they have asked me to. I do appreciate when people point out my grammatical errors however, (in a kind way) because I can't stand it when I post something with typos and I genuinely like to learn.

Yes on both grammar and spelling, it subconsciously creates an instant impression be that right or wrong. Some of the spelling on here is at times atrocious and it makes you hold back on conversing with someone. I also realise that some people do not have English as a first language and accept that but those who do create impressions simply based on their spelling and use of grammar
WeighedDown · 36-40, M
@JayneA I am dyslexic, what about people like me?
JayneA · 36-40, F
@WeighedDown yes I totally appreciate some people have medical conditions which influence their spelling and grammar and I understand that. Often the more common forms of dyslexia are apparent in people's writing, so that is a different issue and my comment was simply an answer to the question. In that do I make instantaneous decisions and judgement based on grammatical correctness and spelling. I did not say I was right to do so just that it is an inbuilt reaction
WeighedDown · 36-40, M
@JayneA I have another learning disability, that I nor my auto correct can spell. It causes, me to mess up words and comas are like bigfoot to me i know they exist but not sure where they belong,
ZenKitzune · F
depends what they are saying with that bad grammar lol

Idk if I judge them on grammar, but if someone doesn't speak or write very well, I wonder why.
I don't judge or belittle anyone, but I am what they call a "grammar Nazi. " :D

Yes. I'm a terrible person.

I don't judge them, but poor grammar use, especially on purpose, is a turn-off for me.
@SW-User Your grammar is cool.
SW-User
@wordswithstrangers Uh-oh! But then I am a goof
@SW-User Being a "goof" or making mistakes happens. I'm talking about those who refuse to punctuate, abbreviate almost everything, and spell words wrong on purpose, constantly. For example, punctuation helps me decipher if I'm being asked a question or told a statement; which in turn, let's me know how to respond.
Subconsciously, yes and people do the same to me, I know because some of them correct me which I also judge them for
WeighedDown · 36-40, M
I'm dyslexic so I'm a grammar offender,
WeighedDown · 36-40, M
@SW-User Thanks rae you just made me feel better about myself

@WeighedDown Then I am glad, my dad never learned to read or write, back in his day they didn't really know about dyslexia and we think that is what he had.
He was a good man and very talented in many ways.
WeighedDown · 36-40, M
@SW-User yea I could not read until 12 or 13 but I still can't read or write cursive
5thApprentice · 31-35, M

Personally, I never judge people’s grammar/punctuation. I’m not an English grammar/punctuation lecture, and I comprehend grammar/punctuation are skills. Anyone can master any skills with devotion/commitment (I love learning English grammar/punctuation. It’s not always the highest priority for me at times. I have many passions too❤️).
No. To do so would be an error of profound stupidity.
zainababbas · 22-25, F
nop. grammer can be improved
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@Thevy29 lol
Maggimay · 46-50, F
It's hard to tell if english is someone's native language or not. I try not to be shallow like that.
I know I struggle seeing i speak, read and write 3 languages. Sometimes my brain has farts.
Andrew19EightyFive · 36-40, M
Would it count if I judged them as displaying poor English grammar (in that particular instant)? 😐
Diyanne · F
[c=#008099]No...sone people are lazy to type long...so they type the shortest word possible....like me 😁...[/c]
Instead I learn different ways to express.
Mahjack · 31-35, M
No, but I hate some abbreviations.
SW-User
In some way, yes.
