In your opinion, what age are you finally considered to be an adult?

Just out of curiosity because I've heard people say that they don't completely feel like one until their late 20's while others say "once you pay bills", which usually happens way younger, which honestly I find annoying.

Legally you're an adult when you turn 18, but I find most people aren't mentally adults until way later. Once you start becoming responsible for yourself, can take care of yourself, and can take care of other people I think that's when you're truly considered an adult.

I honestly feel like age has nothing to do with being an adult. I know people that are in their 30's and 40's and still act like teenagers. Paying bills doesn't necessarily make you an adult either. I mean if you're not able to pay bills and you're of age and you actually act like an adult, does that make you any less of an adult? To me, it doesn't.

It's different for everyone. I was 25 before I was mature enough to be considered an adult, but I've seen people that were almost born an adult.. and some unfortunates NEVER grow up..

It's not just one thing but a culmination of events.
Then one day you realize you've been in training for adulthood all this time.
Some will always be in training; I'm one.

When the person starts acting like one while having the responsibilities of one.

In my humble opinion it's not age at all. It's how mature you are. Some people think that comes with age. I say it comes with how a person is treated while growing up. Some people mature at a very young age while some die without becoming mature at all... You decide where you fit in. :)

@islandalone well you can take whatever topics you're interested in and learn more about it in that case. Or you can step outside your comfort zone and explore topics you know little about, or even ask others about their experiences in life. I hope that's what you meant.

Legally it's 18. "Adult" is often overrated and taken out of context. It has nothing to do with maturity.

@soulasylum i agree

My parents will consider me as a child until I move out and start to earn the money I need. Until then I live by their rules and get the belt or the whip whenever they think I need it.

@MzFuzz: thank you but I'm not that arrogant to think I can't learn something new everyday.
wintziee · F
@islandalone you really think so? you seem pretty mature to me
wintziee · F
@missingnotes I never thought of it that way...
wintziee · F
@igorsero most parents think like that anyways
wintziee · F
@missingnotes well think of it as personal preference I guess. Some people might treat everyone like kids while others will be respective based on age and others might treat everyone like adults.

@coolboy86 thank you, I used to get that a lot back on ep and I'm starting to question whether or not it's a bad thing tbh....

For some reason I don't know tho, most people start taking you seriously once you're in your mid 20s.
