is canada better than USA for living?

shaelan · 41-45, M
I've read that Canada ranks much higher on the global peace index than the USA. Beyond this, I have little sound data to say one way or another, and anecdotal or experience-based evidence is utterly worthless in this type of situation, mostly given the vast plethora of experiences and lifestyles possible for citizens of either country.

Yes. It's ranked higher for quality of living. It's more tolerant of other races and cultures. It's more worldly wise and less set on robbing through military might. America is still a very good country- just not as good.

@SW-User . Just curious .. what do you think America has taken or robbed by military force in the last 75 -100 years??
SW-User
@SW-User America offers nations military protection and outdated weaponry in return for trade vastly in its favour. It doesn't need to outright steal, but it's tantamount to robbery.

Spent a year working in Canada, two weeks there, two weeks home..never saw anything I would say was significantly better in Canada. Nothing wrong with it either though.

Depends probably on what you want. Higher cost of living, groceries etc. and it's so cold up there in the winter you need a lot of money for heating.

@lorne13 I am not obsessed with temperatures but people who live in a hot or warm climate will have to adapt and some don't. The person I was speaking about in particular came from a warm climate, was offered a job transfer and didn't like it in Canada and moved back home.

@cherokeepatti it's just that it's such a cliché about Canadians being frozen for 7 months a years and living in igloos etc, etc that it gets irritating after a while, maybe like Americans being obsessed with guns, you know?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@lorne13 If you live in a climate where it's warm enough to be outdoors and take evening strolls and walk to the grocery (and other) stores then not only the adapting but the extra cost for heating and cab fares (or the cost of a vehicle) has to be factored into the cost of living. Some places like Morocco mostly don't pay for air-conditioning or heating any time of the year...

Yeah..but everything that's even remotely fun is illegal
shaelan · 41-45, M
@SW-User Thank you. You have an interesting perspective on what one considers remotely fun.

@shaelan whatever happens in Ontario, happens for profit..that sucks the fun out of life
shaelan · 41-45, M
@SW-User I have the impression that by population, most of Canada lives in Ontario. Upon verifying this, I find that over half of the country's population resides in either Ontario or Quebec, with the next-highest percentage residing in British Columbia as I do. Suffice it to say, each of the provinces is mandated differently and given the vastness of the lands here, a citizen wouldn't necessarily be relegated to an Ontarian life suck unless they were born into it or had to live there for work, presumably...
