Why don't some people accept genuine compliments?

Cause some ppl like myself have been put down all our lives and believe it or not.. we have NO confidence and it's pretty hard to trust that anyone could see good and positive in us.

I have a tough time thinking they're genuine. Soooo many guys say the same thing and it sounds like they say the same thing to everyone. So I'm like yeah, whatever. Tell it to the next girl.

Depending on someone's mindset, accepting a compliment can be very difficult.

We feel we don't deserve them.
I just say, "Thank you."

Don't trust people enough to be nice to me in that way. It's usually an encrypted insult.

I cannot tell when someone is being genuine or when someone is being fake... So there is a narrow range of skills I like to be complimented on, things I have trained to do, things I have studied. Anything else, especially looks, makes me suspicious -- what are they trying to get out of me...?

Mainly because they have not been taught to. Men are terrible at this. Women a bit better. As they were trained in so much more. he was denied due to this fucked up society and the way they perceive roles of male and female. So he (and she) feel uncomfortable accepting them.

When you are called ugly, stupid, that you are told that ull never do good or no one will ever care about you even less love you. That you are worthless ect... it's pretty hard to believe otherwise

It's not always about self-esteem. When you hear the same generic things 50 times a day, you're not gonna say "oh i know I'm beautiful." It's gonna be, us thinking "you're just trying to kiss my ass"
