Is it wrong to lie about your heritage?

Normally if someone asks I tend to substitute israeli for Italian or Greek. I don't want people to go ugh middle eastern and automatically assume things about me

The problem is when they discover the truth, they will know you are a liar as well. It only compounds the situation. You will do as you will, but being dishonest about something as basic as your heritage speaks more about you than where you are from.
