Should I be this nervous about college?

sogdianrock · 61-69, M Best Comment
hi Halfbroken17
Nerves can be useful to achieve focus, College us certainly something you should be focussed on. Make sure you do the right course. Make sure you can commit for the full course. Also enjoy.
Be aware also it is bound to be hard work.
Best wishes
:)

Based on my own experience, not at all. Everyone is in a new place and wanting to make friends, so they're extra nice. People i didn't even know would smile and wave. There's none of that high school drama, because everyone grew up and realized it didn't matter. You take the classes on your own time, and they really aren't any more difficult than high school. Some are easier, i thought. I wouldn't worry.

Yes!

It is filled with people who can make your life or break it and influence your career for decades

and then there's the weird strange truthful angry sick nice perverted lying religious liberal conservative friendly scary people that will want to use you or ignore you completely

and then there's all the knowledge, some of which is wrong or biased or completely useless, that you will have to learn just graduate in a field which may not be visible or you may hate in 4 years but have to work in anyway due to the tremendous debt you incurred to get a degree because of familial and peer pressure!

Or you could just go to a free trade school program for 6 to 18 months and make more your first year as a welder, plumber, machinist, plant operator, electronics tech, or other field than you will your first 2 or 3 years with the degree.

Be Very SCARED!

@Some1Else ...and 5 years out, the college grad will start making more and for the rest of their life will be more highly paid. Plus the college grad will work in a more comfortable environment and are at a significant lower risk for injuries and health problems.

@MarkFree In theory... But they have to graduate!
So many drop out due to money or brain deficiency

They Could have been 3 years + in the work force with a Career already established and no long term student loans to pay in a needed and well paid profession!

when I started college I got hazed and I had to sacrifice a chicken to some weird demon Lord and then they made me cover myself in mustard and slither on the floor of the library like a slug

How nervous are you?

You don't need to be, tbh. Chill. Don't do things you don't want to out of peer pressure. Always make your own drink. Have fun and make sure to be as socially and educationally active as possible. Obviously, that means less sleep time.
Good luck!

Nope, colleges are built for people just like you. All of your needs and wants will be taken care of. You'll have staff to clean up after you. In high school you probably were treated like an inmate. In college you'll be treated like a customer. You'll have lots of friends and constant activities. You'll have all the privileges of being an adult and none of the responsibility.

When you graduate from college, then you should be nervous.
@MarkFree lol wtf college is like that?
