I am so excited about the group consolidation. It has always been my #1 recommendation for this site. With fewer groups the quality of the remaining groups should improve and have a lot of activity.Too many groups for the same subject watered things down. The groups were canabalizing each other which brought down the quality of the site as a whole. So thanks for doing this. Can't wait to explore.
Even though you notify of changes, further explanation before changes are implemented would definitely help people adjust. The groups shouldn't have been lost. It's what made people bond here, the similar experiences we had...
Finally, you guys have done the unthinkable...so kudos to you and your team, Nuno. And since I can only fathom the challenge you faced at every step, a big THANK YOU! π
Nuno, I donβt want to lose my writings going back since the beginning of SW. I imported βgroupsβ I created on EP, and I have stories, poetry, and quotes I like. If you merge my groups, Iβll never find my writings. Why donβt you just leave groups alone?
You make a good point, but I also want my friends comments, and that would be very time consuming to copy and paste everything. I doubt I have room on my phone for that much data. Itβs amazing that over these years, as I go through life alone, in my darkest times, kind and encouraging comments from my old friends have brought me some cheer, smiles, and laughs, so when Iβm really down, I enjoy going through those writings to get me through the next hour or day. However, I do agree with you, but there was no harm in me asking, and if SW can maintain these groups, then Iβm thankful to them. @Punches
The operating of a social website is demanding and draining. The toil taken from both its very existence and from the residents, be they newly arrived, temporary, long-standing, constant, or occasional prove to be a stress and strain on the staff. Exuberance can be realized in the form(s) of another planned level attained, taking the site to a slightly higher plane; relief as mysteries are solved and a drama resolved, regardless of who or how many accept the results.
@SW-User When you go to the group information (at the right on a pc or bottom on phones), there is link to mute it. (Except for this one, for obvious reasons.)
@Nuno your changes are disruptive and largely unwelcome I have read post from people who started and suported many groups FULL of content and original creativity, only to see it gone in a poof. RE-ASSURE US that these things are still there, and will be available again. Spend more time, just browsing the feed, reading the reactions. there is a post, the first day these changes landed that voted overwhelmingly discomfort with losing names, and groups
@SatyrService what's really annoying are the same people complaining about losing groups, names and the fun that was had being part of these groups , then go and post on the admins post saying what a wonderful job you guys are doing , they are clearly not listening to people who are unhappy to be honest I'm surprised how many kiss arse users the site has
@ExtremeNext I asked a few of those, why the 2 faces. this is the rought idea I got back
The admins can see everything you say, your real e mail, your location info and all that. they see all your private messages pics and so on. I dont want to be thrown off SW for complaining
@SatyrService well the fact if they do kick people off the site shows what little respect they have for users who support the site and have paid for VIP in the past , it's like looking in the mirror of what happened to EP
Thank you for the updates. Thought you were going to implement this very differently, yet I knew this was coming at some point.
Are these "associated" groups implemented differently on cellphones? The closest to what you are showing that I can find is this and under "Random" I only see posts.
Or I'm I missing something? I don't see it under either search nor from topics link...
While the Associated Groups are available on mobile, just as @NerdyPotato said, they currently aren't positioned in a very adequate place, on mobile devices.
Why would anyone care about that? I've been here since the beginning and never paid any attention to what group I'm in. I couldn't even tell the name of a group.
@hunkalove I am kind of in the same boat. The last time I remember paying attention to groups was when I first signed up and had to pick so many. I do not even know what they were now.
I guess though some people find the subject of groups to be really important to their SW experience.

Also, the Anime & Manga category has been available since our release days ago.
Anime & Manga - https://similarworlds.com/anime-manga
However, the old fragmented groups of Anime and Manga (hundreds), have now been merged, and all posts are available again, here:
https://similarworlds.com/anime-manga/anime
Correctly, the old posts should exist in two distinct groups, one of "Anime" and one of "Manga". We should be able to split all posts there into their corresponding sections
I have given y'all several suggestions in the past and I haven't seen a single effort taken to even consider them nor have I gotten any responses about whether or not they would even be considered
As much flak as I give you guys, I'll be fair and give you credit when doing good stuff; the associated groups was much needed so good on you for getting it in there.
Should probably have been implemented before release though, felt more like a forced beta test with the state it was released in. Still think the overall update was a major step backward and killed one of the more special things about this place, but if we're gonna be stuck with this topics... thing... then at least having proper access to all the subtopics helps.
Quick search? I know a lot of people will like that, although I've never been fond of predictive searches and tend to turn it off where possible. At least it'll please a few souls here.
