Incongruence · 31-35, F
I avoid them but if that's not the case, I unleash my most sarcastic side
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@Incongruence I become impatient sometimes...

Iwillwait · M
I gave them all the attention I could a long time ago. Now I force them to text only. I will not talk with people like that.
Iwillwait · M
@Unlearn I don't care for that behaviour at all, that makes the my inner-narcissist come alive and I assume they're all talking about me.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@Iwillwait what happens when your inner narcissist comes out?
Iwillwait · M
@Unlearn I go in...
SW-User
Depends. If it was someone not considered important in my life I'd avoid/ignore. The ones I care about, I try to listen. When it gets too much I lighten up the convo. I often know how to distract them lol.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@SW-User good for you...
SW-User
..............@Unlearn
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@SW-User what's that supposed to mean!?
SW-User
I choose not to deal with someone like that.
But there have been times I've had a family member behave that way and I kept reminding them to be grateful. Now they do not choose me to complain to. 😂
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@SW-User They don't like it one bit. They were just getting warmed up and swimming in the sea of their self-pity...out of the blue you remind them there is no sea and they can't swim no more. Ouch! 😀
SW-User
@Unlearn This is how I make enemies and am always the black sheep. 🤷🙃
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@SW-User Same with me. I don't create drama nor do I indulge others doing it. Few people take it personally. Complaining to them is like what painting was to Picasso. They're in their elements when they're doing it. I inadvertently become the wet blanket...
being · 36-40, F
I have watched a video and someone was suggesting to find ways to tell them two things, add in every conversation a "thank you" "thank you for.." and a "well done" .. I have been trying with my family especially but it's not easy. It's a good technique though, cultivating in them appreciation and some confidence in themselves.. ❤️
Yet sometimes you just need to let them go...
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
My grandmother is like this and I had to stay away from her I can’t deal with all that negativity all the time
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@DeluxedEdition Same with me. I don't like negativity...there is so much one can do and be. But all they choose to be is being petty.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
I avoid them
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@Fungirlmmm that's the best way to handle them...but sometimes you get ambushed by them 😀
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
I know so many people like that
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
@Unlearn naw not really
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@MyNameIsHurl If ever you should run for pope, you would get my vote...
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
@Unlearn Popestress Hurl, I like it
WhateverWorks · 36-40
Distance myself heh

Give them a minute to vent a bit then change the topic or reframe it in a (realistically) positive light.
ABCDEF7 · M
Take it as a challenge to keep trying teach them positivity.
Lilymoon · F
You can only take so much of that. 🤦‍♀️
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@Lilymoon What do you do when they've crossed your thresholds?
Lilymoon · F
@Unlearn I have to leave. or hang up.
SW-User
Well i just don't pay much attention to their complains
SW-User
Ignore them 🙄

@Punches What if you tried the second option and they followed you to the living room? 😐
Punches · 46-50, F
@Unlearn I was totally kidding, never tell someone that cause they will give the long version.

Seriously though it is best to start making jokes, sometimes it shuts them up and they will give you the silent treatment. And what a treat :D
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@Punches I just ask them if they have anything positive to share...😐
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@lovelywarpedlemon If a picture is worth thousand words, a gif is worth a million words...
@Unlearn 😂
Punches · 46-50, F
@lovelywarpedlemon Grumpy kitty! :D
smiler2012 · 61-69
{@unlearn] 🤷‍♂️maybe they are just an unhappy person for whatever reason
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@smiler2012 maybe they're...
SW-User
Tell them to build a bridge and get over it
caccoon · 36-40
I stop giving their negativity positive attention
SW-User
Well, I tried and tested many methods and in the end ignoring and having nothing to do with them is what worked for me.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@SW-User That's not an option when you're in the same house... 😐
SW-User
@Unlearn ohhhhh 🤗😕😕
