Modern Medicine is Run by Insurance Companies

I wonder how much money I've made sitting on hold and talking to insurance companies.

I wonder how many hours I've spent just trying to find out which form to fill out.

I wonder how many people have died or had worsening of their condition because their insurance wouldn't cover a medication.

It's a corruption and a cancer. We could fix this mess but we won't.
Now I understand why my friends used to fly to India to get their diagnosis and treatments. It’s 1/10th the price of treatment and you’re treated like VIPs there. Plus, the good doctors are plenty and affordable.

@Vivaci And Mexico, Thailand and the Philippines. Get outstanding treatment and maybe a vacation much cheaper than in their home town.
@Crazywaterspring idk…I’ve heard horrible stories bout Mexico. But you’re right.

I agree, but we also must factor in the exorbitant prices that drug companies are charging now. They are all villains together.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@yogibooboo The government is complicit in overcharging people through drug prices.
yogibooboo · M
@Crazywaterspring I agree. The Pharma lobby spends more than oil, banking and insurance combined. The government is definitely in the pocket of big pharma.

Yep. And this doesn't happen anywhere else in the developed world. Kind of like another public health crisis. American exceptionalism.

Truer words were never spoken.

Basically, they make decisions on when you die if you have a devastating cancer. I know from first hand experience, the insurance company decided it was time to stop chemotherapy on my wife, explanation, she’s already outlived the expected prognosis.

its like the Pharmaceutical companies don't want people to get better so mediocre prescriptions are distributed to people , there is way better stuff in Hospitals
yogibooboo · M
@FurryFace Pharmaceutical companies dont want to cure anything. They want to treat chronic conditions for life. Cancer is becoming an expensive chronic disease.

If the country collapses completely and has to be rebuilt or is taken over by AI maybe things will change.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
@Tastyfrzz you know it's funny but I hope the butlerian jihad happens and we develop mentats. It is wildly irresponsible to create AI. We can't even raise well adjusted humans ehy would we do better making AI?

Healthcare is a for-profit industry, otherwise healthcare would not exist.
yogibooboo · M
@butterflybaby75 Healthcare exists extremely well in most countries in the world on a not for profit basis. US is the exception.
@yogibooboo Exactly. In almost every other developed nation, healthcare is universal. In almost every other developed nation, healthcare costs, per capita, roughly HALF what it costs in the US, and they have longer life expectancies.

Universal health care works BETTER and costs LESS in every other developed nation. It's time we had it here.

@ElwoodBlues The OECD data is solid, and as ElwoodBlues states, health outcomes are also better elsewhere. The OECD also measures income inequality. The US ranks very poorly and inequality is comparable to third world countries. Couple high income inequality with high health and education costs and its a wonder that the average person can survive in the US. And now food costs are rising.
