Modern Medicine is Run by Insurance Companies

I wonder how much money I've made sitting on hold and talking to insurance companies.

I wonder how many hours I've spent just trying to find out which form to fill out.

I wonder how many people have died or had worsening of their condition because their insurance wouldn't cover a medication.

It's a corruption and a cancer. We could fix this mess but we won't.

Healthcare is a for-profit industry, otherwise healthcare would not exist.

@butterflybaby75 what do you mean? There would be no healthcare practitioners?
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@Doomflower Yes because every aspect of healthcare is run as a profit-making business all the way from your local GP right up to the biggest of the Big Pharma and related businesses that 'control' the entire healthcare industry.

@butterflybaby75 so youre saying people should practice medicine for free?

@butterflybaby75 Healthcare exists extremely well in most countries in the world on a not for profit basis. US is the exception.
@yogibooboo Exactly. In almost every other developed nation, healthcare is universal. In almost every other developed nation, healthcare costs, per capita, roughly HALF what it costs in the US, and they have longer life expectancies.

Universal health care works BETTER and costs LESS in every other developed nation. It's time we had it here.

@ElwoodBlues The OECD data is solid, and as ElwoodBlues states, health outcomes are also better elsewhere. The OECD also measures income inequality. The US ranks very poorly and inequality is comparable to third world countries. Couple high income inequality with high health and education costs and its a wonder that the average person can survive in the US. And now food costs are rising.
