Are pull-down kitchen sink sprayers good?

The plumber just suggested I buy my own new kitchen faucet with a pull-down sprayer. I really didn't know what he was talking about. Then I saw them online. Do I want this? Do I need this? I never use the regular sprayer that is with my current kitchen faucet.

They are fantastic. They are especially good for washing cook/bakeware, and it makes rinsing out the sink really easy.

@Ontheroad I was sort of wondering how durable they are, how prone to breaking or causing other plumbing problems.

@Poppies Only problem I have encountered is that it doesn't easily fully retract, but that is a space problem under the counter and has been true from the very beginning. I will go all the way up with a little nudging. No leak or breaking problems for going on 20 years now. And I love it. Use it all the time. Previous ones to the side seldom got used.

@dancingtongue so they have existed that long!

@Poppies To date, mine has been going strong for 10+ years. I use it multiple times each day and except for one time when the weight that helps retract the hose slipped, I've had zero problems. The slippage of the weight was something I caused by not tightening down a screw. A 5 minute fix and all was well again.

@Poppies I bought mine on Amazon - best prices and a big selection.

@Poppies Yep. Installed when we renovated this place which would have been late 2004, early 2005.

@Poppies The instant hot water dispenser barely lasted a decade. The dishwasher needed a new motor after 17, 18 years. The refrigerator needed service after about 15 and replacement this year. But the sprayer keeps on going.
