My quest is to spend 10$

Been leaving pennies on graves for several years now...

Spent one with respect this past May.

Have you read about his death... Like his stories, strange and mysterious
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@Convivial back then they used to use drunks to vote several times.
Convivial · 26-30, F
@JohnnySpot ok... Thanks
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@Punxi This is the story I've heard about Poe's death.
So they'd keep them drunk and have them vote several times, but Poe never got back on his feet after being drunk... for so long..
I never realized he was only 26 at death.

@Mamapolo2016 He was 40 years old

January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849

The marker is saying he was originally buried there for 26 years, before they moved him to a bigger area.
Punxi · 26-30, F
@SW-User Indeed. Took 15 years for that headstone.
@Viper Ah.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
I put them on graves of fellow veterans
Punxi · 26-30, F
@vetguy1991 How we discovered that show of respect. 👍
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Had a thick book of his complete works as apart of a encyclopedia set. Was far far too young to read it. Yet even then not exactly appropriate reading for any child.

I suspect my father didn't even know it was in the set.
Punxi · 26-30, F
@DeWayfarer Dark minded fella I think 🤷‍♀️
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Punxi oh yes. I did read some of it when I was a teen. Yet only some of it. Too depressing even for a teen.
Pfuzylogic · M
Is that Philadelphia? I went to his home.
Ben Franklin has all kinds of change in his grave.
Punxi · 26-30, F
@Pfuzylogic Baltimore. Have yet to visit Ben.
Pfuzylogic · M
@Punxi That was in Philadelphia Christ Chirch. They clean it daily of coins thrown on top. I wasnt aware that Poe diied so young.
Punxi · 26-30, F
@Pfuzylogic Sometimes I wonder what the lit world would have gained had his life reached fruition. Some day I might spend a penny on Ben.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
I think he uses good words and has interesting sentences.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@Punxi times were different back then not that I'm condoning it
Punxi · 26-30, F
@JohnnySpot Certainly. Many wish only to turn tables with Goggleed up facts. I left a penny on a rock. Now the surrounding grass could have been crab or Bahia. 🤦‍♀️
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@Punxi unsolicited pregoogle information observed is meant to hold no sway
I didn't know this was a thing. Like what it for and stuff. You a tribute of respect? Money for Charon?
Punxi · 26-30, F
@canusernamebemyusername A girlfriend and I set out to see the US when we turned 19. Road trips....an visitin' folks.

@Punxi my family visited his childhood home in Richmond,Va. They said it was amazing. My fave poem is The Raven!! I studied his works in high school english class. The telltale heart is another one of my faves!! But, my bestie has all his works and knows so much about him @MoonlightLullaby!! ☺
Punxi · 26-30, F
@Indy74 Very cool. He was an interesting man even beyond his poetry. Learning just how someone came to be is my passion. 🙂
Indy74 · 46-50, F
@Punxi so very true......he died so young!! 😔
Barny52 · 56-60, M
I didn’t know about leaving penny’s for respect
Punxi · 26-30, F
@Barny52 I believe it began by leaving a penny on soldiers graves so that relatives would know that someone have visited. A nickel would denote that you'd served with them.
Viper · M
You take that pic yourself? :)
Punxi · 26-30, F
@Viper No.
Whyme · 46-50, M
Dshhh · M

@Darksideinthenight2 His original headstone was destroyed by a train. So...where the fuck I went was where I left a penny.
