Would you consider cloning a beloved pet?

I wouldn't. It feels wrong and unnecessary to try to artificially recreate something unique and special. Especially when the world is full of pets looking for homes.

I was thinking about it today because I heard something about Tom Brady cloning his dog.

No. I am still grieving for Toby and Shorty. They were real. I would go to the shelter and get one first or get one from a friend.

Shelter pets need homes desperately so I am of the mind to adopt my next one and hopefully a sibling of the same sex.🐕🐕or a cat🐱

@tobynshorty

Get a kitten and a pup and raise them together, it'll be great. 🙂
tobynshorty · 51-55, F
@calicuz I wanted to do that with Toby but with working and living alone I was afraid I would feel overwhelmed. Then I inherited Shorty and the two of them were practically raised together and Toby had already passed and I had Shorty until he passed.

No, and for the same reasons you expressed. Even if I were in the financial position to do it, I wouldn't want to. Every animal companion I've been pretty much owned by has been a very unique being, and I don't believe cloning would 'reproduce' that aspect of them.

I wish I could have more time with my dog because I adopted an older boy. He's the best and I've often wished I could have twenty of him as puppies. I agree it's a waste if so many dogs need homes, but ngl, the thought of an extra few Aliens sounds amazing.

@ScreamingFox he's beautiful
There are too many discarded pets already. They need a properly loving home, instead of being imprisoned in a shelter because their initial owners got tired of them. I know some people who will only take rescue animals, for that reason.
@jackieash I only take rescue animals too
Nope.
Well maybe. I didn't get enough time with my cat Thomas, but his life experiences would be different so he's not going to be the same experience either.
@nonsensiclesnail that's a great point. The life experiences shape the pet
@robingoodfellow Experience shapes everything and builds up, or brings in, the energies that surround us.

He was a neat cat. He lived a brilliant cat life. Chained with a logging chain to the yard, as I lived right off a main road, and determined to go explore he learned to pull this massive chain all over the yard. He was ripped! I know once we started letting him out of the yard he kicked some kitty butt and ruled the neighborhood. He also liked to snuggle late at night after he thought I was asleep.
I don't think so but if I was grieving and that opportunity was given to me then I can't say for sure id say no

Certainly not! No more than I would clone my wife. A person, and in that category I include my most recent cat, is much more than their genes.
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
I couldn't. I know it wouldn't be the same pet.
@FoxyGoddess that's exactly how I feel. And it's unfair to the clone pet to try to pretend it is.

No way I would want to clone anything. Life is magical enough as is... I might miss someone but I respect that their soul needs to find peace.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
No. I mean I’ve joked about wishing we could in the past but I wouldn’t really do it.
No more than I’d considered having it stuffed, and I know there are people who do that, too. It makes no sense to me.
JSul3 · 70-79
@bijouxbroussard Roy Rogers had his horse Trigger stuffed.
@JSul3 I remember reading about that.
JSul3 · 70-79
@bijouxbroussard Trigger made his movie debut in The Adventures of Robin Hood. He was the horse that Olivia deHavilland rode.
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
No way. It wouldn't have the same attributes as the original. It just wouldn't be the same to me.
JSul3 · 70-79
Tommy boy didn't want to bother with going to a shelter and adapting a new pet.....how sad.

He'd rather drop $50k to clone his dog.
Priorities.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
No.
It wouldn't be my dog, and it wouldn't be fair to the cloned pet either.
Lugwho · 61-69, M
No I wouldn't, but then I'd never have a pet.
jehova · 36-40, M
No waste of money also so many children that need parents animals can survive on their own they are literally evovled to do so
Journaling4Me · 56-60, F
No, It wouldn't be the same...
faery · F
No, that's cruel as clones are not the same individual and are a genetically weakened version.
But it wouldn't be the same, every living animal has a soul and you cannot replicate it.. It's just science gone mad..
Nope theres enough movies and tv shows to know you cant make an exact copy and it might turn crazy and try to eat you

Like jurassic park
