The Popeye’s in the south are so much better than the ones here, imo. They just seem to know more about how those side dishes are supposed to taste.

@bijouxbroussard I first had Popeyes in New Orleans in the late 70's. I thought it was fantastic.
In the early 80's there was one in Minneapolis that was wretched. It closed .
Several years ago one opened near me. The chicken is good, but I never had a side dish in NO, so I can't compare

@DrWatson Yes, in NOLA it would be, that’s where the company was founded. I first had it there in the late 70s, too, on a road trip to visit family. I remember thinking it was the first fast food chicken I’d tasted almost as good as my grandmother’s.

@DrWatson Yes. She used buttermilk, before "buttermilk-fried" chicken really became commercialized.
