Popping bubbles

A small crowd of around 7-8 people had gathered while waiting for the elevator after work yesterday. We didn’t know each other so were waiting quietly and awkwardly. When doors opened, I saw one woman standing at the back of the elevator. Without thinking I blurted out “Surprise!” She gave me a disapproving wtf look, like I was mentally unstable.

I didn’t plan to do it.. Thought it was funny when it happened. But her look sucked all the air out of my bubble.
