How does one prepare themselves to die?

If you knew your time was limited

i watched both of my parents die of horrible deaths.one suffered and died at home and one in the hospital. but they were on some pretty strong drugs to help them cope with the pain they were in. they pretty much knew they were going to die while on these drugs but just waited it out until their time came. if i were to suffer their fate and had a gun i would have taken myself out with a bullet in the temple...that's how i would prepare

@beermeplease I would opt for the assisted dying. I'm actually glad we have that

@beermeplease I know the pain of watching a parent die in front of you.

My mother died before she was 50 from MS. She died at Saint Luke's hospital on 27th & Oklahoma. That's when Pinky's Bowl was on the corner. That's all gone now

Watching your mom go from running & playing to wheelchair in a matter of a few years.

So yeah I know that pain of watching a parent suffering and dying in front of you

@Lilymoon my dad died in 2009. don't think we had that then. mom died in 2022. she was in the hospital for 2 months. she infections in her feet due to clogged blood vessels restricting blood flow to those areas. they tried angioplasty but that didn't work. so one option was to amputate her foot and then wait. then after a few weeks her leg was getting worse. and it started in on the other one. to make matters worse she had copd and got pneumonia twice while laying there. she actually tested positive for covid when she first arrived in the hospital...anyway the doctors told us the only other option was to amputate her entire leg, but at her age and other health issues she probably wouldn't survive that....they then asked my brother and i if we wanted to put her in palliative care...that was our only option but the best one...she died peacefully 5 days later.......i don't want to sound preachy, but if anyone else reads this and smokes please quit. we all know it's bad for you but don't just think one day you'll die a quick death by cardiac arrest...mom actually suffered for years....

@beermeplease Oh my gosh I'm so sorry... that's awful. 😓

And yes the m.a.i.d. is about the best thing Trudeau brought in. I wouldn't hesitate. 😔
@Lilymoon i think my mom could have done did the m.a.i.d option but one has to be of sound mind to sign up for it i think...which she was not. that's why she was put in palliative care. my bosses father did that option but he was still driving a week before he did it

@beermeplease I think it's good to have that option. You have to be dying (or suffering a reasonable amount) before being accepted. I mean they put animals out of their misery so why not us.
@Lilymoon i totally agree
