• The "GRAS" Loophole: Under the 1958 Food Additives Amendment, food and chemical companies can self-determine that an ingredient is "Generally Recognized as Safe" (GRAS) using their own hired scientists, without ever notifying or showing data to the FDA.
• No Mandatory Post-Market Reassessment: Unlike prescription drugs, the FDA has no statutory mandate to regularly re-evaluate approved or self-determined food chemicals as new scientific or toxicological research emerges.
• Burden of Proof is "Innocent Until Proven Guilty": U.S. law generally requires the FDA to prove an existing substance is harmful after it is already on store shelves, rather than requiring companies to prove safety beforehand.
• Lack of Industry Transparency: Food manufacturers perform extensive proprietary research on ingredients and ultra-processed formulations that they are not legally required to share with government regulators.

There a direct relation between their bank accounts and what gets approved..
I’ll bet Congress prolly gave them immunity too somewhere down the line..

I absolutely despise the methods that cause this type of reporting. It's all BS nonsense. If you take the part looking at artificial sweeteners this way, including cyclamates, which was a defective super high dose study, taking it off the market. It's still off the market for no reason.
They don't do the same type of testing with natural foods like green beans or corn. Break down the elements and put that in super high doses and give it to people. It's just as dangerous as everything that they test.
Here's something to think about with sugar.
These stupid tests are done to push the limits to find out what doses will kill you. It doesn't have shit to do with the safety of what you're eating.
You take any element in any food and put it in high enough doses, it's gonna kill you. But they don't test that. They only test for additives. That's the key word. Oh, that's not natural. That's an additive.
The whole thing is a scam to the general public because the damn media extracts these reports.
Turns nothing into fear mongering.
I'm gonna make a correction here. They only report tests on additives. They do test natural stuff. They just don't tell us the results. Think about that logic. Every bit of produce in the damn grocery store would disappear overnight doing the same reporting.

• The Irony: Biochemically, a heavy chronic dose of standard cane sugar causes vastly more documented, real-world organ damage and metabolic destruction to millions of humans every single year than any FDA-approved artificial sweetener ever has in a lab. But because it's "natural," it doesn't get the same viral, alarmist graphics on social media.
