I love it when people idolize a certain time period

Because it had no phone or Internet, well yeah the world would seem like a nice place as you only got to live in your bubble and didn't know anything else going on in the world. No Internet means you don't know what you don't know, idiots.

I have a longtime acquaintance that absolutely romanticises the Victorian Era.

Even when she learns how it truly was, when her blinkers come off and her field of vision widens? It never seems to last long.

Quite sad to see. Too much romance novels and highly questionable 'documentaries'.
The urge to return to a simpler time is an urge I am always weary to fight against in myself and warn others about. The way is forward, not backwards. I think some time periods exceled in certain things, and we should strive to synthesize that. I the honor of chivalry from the dark ages, but the critical thinking of the enlightenment era. I want properness as like the victorian era. I want a wholesome family like the 50s. And I want a structural order more similar to britain prior to christian take over. I also want things which have never been implemented in the mix.
Ahhh the good old days...where you could own other human beings.

And here you go ruining their fantasies as well by spelling out what they didn't know.
