For years the city wouldn't let Walmart build in the city. They built on the direct outskirts instead. They had the Chicago shoppers, but the city didn't get the tax revenue. All this because of unions.
@carpediem I see that happen around me - NIMBY's fight businesses, citing traffic and environmental fanaticism, only to have these companies build near the border in the next town over. So City B gets the sales tax revenues from City A's residents while City A gets zip.
@graphite Exactly. Chicago is pretty stupid. They didn't want Chick-fil-a in either because the owner donated to a pro-life organization. Idiots. So now businesses are leaving and the idiot former mayor throws out the "R" word as the cause.
