I love swimming in the waves on Nantucket. No fear whatsoever. If I see a seal swimming by, I just get out of the water for a few minutes as they mosey down the beach.
You’re much more apt to get hurt by a wave than a shark. Lightning strike is much riskier, but I’ll still walk in the rain.
Chance of dying from a lightning strike:
1 in 79,746
Chance of dying from a shark attack:
1 in 3,748,068
In the US between 1959-2010 there were 1,970 lightning fatalities - shark bite fatalities, 26. Of those 26, 22 came from California (7), Florida (9) and Hawaii (6).
That’s 51 years of data. I’m 62 and doing just fine. 😉
